Year 57 has the first record of someone discovering a strange underground site. The location appeared ancient yet untouched for centuries. Despite having no known religious markings, this site was named the “Shine of the Unsung.” The site’s purpose has stumped scientist and magician alike for centuries. The mystery was left unsolved and long forgotten.

A human, Dr. Edgard Bancroft, dedicated his life to the research of the Shine of the Unsung. In the year 814, he believed he cracked the ‘code’ of the site. The interpreted message is a doomsday calendar which mentions an “invasion” at the end. Unable to decipher what his meant exactly, he established a team to figure this out – “Wardens.”

The powers to be, kings, and churches that would listen to them remained unconvinced. While the exact year of this ‘invasion’ was unclear, they believed it would occur in the next century. Reports of sporadic nature anomalies started appearing worldwide: devastating lightning storms without clouds, upside down tornadoes, hail in summer, etc.

Edgard become convinced that these weather anomalies were linked to the message; on top of that, it was too late to repel any sort of invasion. If the leaders wouldn’t help him, he would take matters into his own hands. Whatever was coming couldn’t be stopped, thus the Wardens came up with the Sanctuary Accommodation Facilitating Experiment.

Project S.A.F.E. would take in handpicked members to be magically suspended for 300 years to wake up in a world that needed them. The number of S.A.F.E.s are unknown except for the team but each are filled with like minded individuals: soldiers, carpenters, engineers, farmers, etc – people who could patch up a potentially broken world. While wide scale, the project was mostly underground.

The S.A.F.E.s would be placed around the world with the ability to communicate with one another for future coordination. Uncertain what the ‘invader’ would be, the S.A.F.E.s have a variety of different inhabitants and themes. The individuals involved all shared one common goal, to better the future. Depending the unclear purpose of each S.A.F.E., they can hold anywhere from 6 to 100 people.

Once recruited by S.A.F.E., the members would meet in year 832 at designated locations to start the suspended animation process. The process is subtle and takes a month to kick in. The S.A.F.E.s themselves do the work. Inhabitants will slowly get drowsier over the 30-day period until finally entering a hibernation like rest. Exactly 300 years later, the magic will dispel and the residents will awaken – opening the facility.

After the initial 30 days, the S.A.F.E. will enter a magical and technological ‘lockdown’ state where nothing enters or leaves. The S.A.F.E. inhabitants are encouraged to become familiar with each other. Not only will they be spending a month locked in a facility together, the future is unknown.
